On September 1st, ICDL Americas and the University of Panama celebrated the completion of the first pilot of ICDL certification, during the ceremony certificates were given to candidates who completed the process last August. On the same week, the Framework Agreement for Academic Cooperation between the two institutions were signed, based on mutual interest in developing innovation, technological advancement and skills for employability and productivity in Panama.

Along with representatives of the University of Panama and ICDL Americas, teachers, candidates, and authorities from government entities which officials also were part of the pilot project, as SENACYT, participated in the ceremony. Ayneth Cuellar, of the Organization of American States, one of the certified candidates, summarized this was a rewarding experience that helped them a lot to understand the reality of their digital skills and improve them through the online courses in preparation for the ICDL certification, consider it very useful to learn more on the use of computer tools.

The pilot programme began last May within the Faculty of Information Technology, Electronics and Communication from the University of Panama, this was the first international digital skills certification process of ICDL in this country. Upon completion of the accreditation process to become ECDL Accredited Test Center, the Extension Department of the same university will begin offering ICDL training and certification to both students and teachers of the academic institution and the community in general.
