The Ministry of Education of Medellin and ICDL Colombia have been promoting since 2014 the project called “International Certification of Digital Skills for qualified teachers of Medellin” that finalised in November this year with more than 400 regional teachers being certified by the international certification ICDL among a group of 700 teachers.
For this project it was determined that the teachers could be certified on 3 out of 8 ICDL modules: Computer Essentials, Online Essentials, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Presentation, Using Databases, IT Security and Online Collaboration.
The process was done in three phases of development of digital skills under the ICDL standard:
- Diagnostics: 700 teachers did diagnostics based on the ICDL international standard that allowed them to identify their level of knowledge regarding the various modules.
- e-Learning: Teachers obtained skills by doing the e-learning, covering those areas where they did not have sufficient knowledge. This gave them the necessary tools to continue with the step of certification.
- ICDL Certification: 400 teachers chose three modules of their choice and took the certification exams.
After the certification, on November 11, a closing ceremony and the projects awards took place at the Pontificia Bolivariana University where 700 teachers participated, including the 400 who obtained the ICDL international certification. Also, the school with the highest number of certified teachers was awarded. In addition, the teacher who got the highest marks throughout the certification process was awarded with a tablet.
